Poppy - the most controversial flower in Afghanistan. On one hand it ensures peasant a solid income - money that is badly needed to rebuild the country. A normal peasant planting wheat will possibly, due to food deliveries by the WFP lowering market prices, suffer poverty and hunger. On the other hand poppy finances Taliban and criminals. To get rid of poppy means giving the people true alternatives to generate a sufficient income and make a living. It could include importing Afghan goods, for instance leather bags - [link] - though one project is not enough.
