what is the military doing over there? if you can convince me with some civilized and intelligent response, then, there would not be any response at all because there would not be this to express it...unless they are working for a world where those who need help get their help by their means, not just those who control us...those in the "evil side" or those in the "good side" who decide where to go and what to kill in order to survive another day in this created civilization founded by death and terror...the basic human instinct...

I'm not a hundred percent sure, but one theory is that, there their to act as bait. in other words, to eliminate as many "evil" guys as possible. That's the only logical thing I can think of at the top of my head.

That's a rough life.
You get to live in some really breath-taking scenery, but you probably don't get many oppotunities to enjoy it, being as the deployed life is pretty much a 24 hour a day job.

...Oh, and the getting-shot-at part is pretty bad too ^^;

Farah is my daughter's name. She's a bright, happy little sprite...that doesn't take shit from anyone. I wish the coalition forces well.
Thank you for the pic.

I dont appreciate millitary *actions* - mostly not when coming from US - and yes, that's me being very silly and basing it on very little - BUT, I do appreciate the military gear and whatnot, purely visually.

So - with that said, this is quite a nice picture - very beautiful in its own senses, I would like a bit more contrast in the picture itself but, still - I like it.

this is a very striking shot, with the mountains in the background and what not... there's a sort of quiet pride about this one.

I don't usually like military pictures too much, but this one feels a bit special

Not only that... but with a radio with such an antenna, he could whip any hostiles to death!
(I know that this is for the reception and all, but it's like a SMS whip or something... He could use it and strike even before an hostile can reach him with a freaking long sword!)

~vanderh7 we guard the meetings because the Taliban have attacked them before. The meetings with the locals are important, especially now that we are handing off back to the ANA.
*yellowsmoke321 Yes it gets hot wearing around 80 lbs of gear when its 60 degrees celsius during the day

Otherwise, Its a nice image. It looks like hes actually at a coalition FOB or Platoon house, hes standing on some HESCO with what looks like a bunker behind him.

Why do we have to guard shit like that? We have enough useless deserts in America that are going completely unprotected.

It's not about securing land or desert.
It's about the people who live in that part of the world and what they use it for.

Terrorism isn't just some Conservative-invented boogeyman.
It's real, and the people who do it use everything they can get their hands on in their cause.

And, not to get all cliche or anything, but 9/11 showed how what is happening in the Middle Eastern deserts has bearing on pretty much the whole world.

because if we didn't, you can be rest assured that the Taliban would find uses for it. maybe smuggling or weapons caches.
